these are october and november's MCA first friday advertisements. another shoot for more ads was just scheduled for this friday.

if anyone reading this would like to come along and help out (i.e. hold some lights, model for test shots, make jokes, etc.) you're more than welcome to come. my contact information is on my portfolio site.

i've been in a bit of a rut with photos these past couple months. i'm finding a lot of new photographers that blow my mind and i keep getting discouraged/ inspired. that's the worst combination. thinking, "are you kidding me, no way could i take an image like that" and at the same time "but it does make me want to try"

anyways, december is almost here and that means two things... weather too cold for any human being to put up with and... a tour. the Dogs On Tour are heading out to maine and back. the show we're getting most excited about is our stop in New York with the radiolab guys. it should prove eventful.

posters, tour dates, and photos should be on the way.

this week has been one of the best of my life. i'm glad to have spent every second of it with the people in the studio.

three days in and feeling great.

marge recorded some harp today. it sounds unbelievably beautiful.

and vocal tracks made their first appearance today. one consisted of me screaming into a ukulele that was hooked up to a delay pedal through an amp with lots of reverb, and the other was cobey, in a booth, alone, in the dark.

we've got most of the rhythm tracks done with just a couple more piano overdubs. today we got a visit from rachel june who brought her cello with her. sounded great.

evan hunt and mr. and mrs. (corey and margaret) bienert were kind enough to come along and were a huge help. evan still needs work on his fill card abilities though.

friday- wake up at 3am, train ride to o'hare, 6am flight to charleston south carolina. walk, pool, walk more, sleep.

sat- wake up at 9am, evan and i shoot a wedding, in bed by midnight.

sun- wake up at 6am, flight back to chicago, train ride back to apartment, edit photos, post on blog.

very tired, but had a ton of fun.

i shot this wedding back in early june. the bride and groom were two really amazing people and a lot of fun to photograph.

sometimes it's really awkward photographing people on their wedding day. they get uncomfortable around the camera so it's hard to capture that loving moment between them. this was NOT the case with lindsay and moises. i can recall some dancing, dips and twirls during the shoot, all of which seemed to be routine for the bride and groom.

anyway, a lot of fun and i'm excited to finish editing the rest.

so, this weekend i went up to michigan with corey and marge... and took some engagement photos... with an elephant.

it was incredible. it was kind of strange being so close and interactive with an elephant. it felt like a rural/ tamed version of jurassic park.

when shannon left, i wrote this song/poem/mantra/prayer to her. she was, and continues to be, my "medicine tree", so to speak (sorry if that sounds cheesy). she fueled the music we played and the lives we lived.

today, she continues to.

shannon showed us immediate love, without reason or motives, without hesitation or restrain.

so for that, for her, i take those things and live ambitiously, try to love wastefully, and continue with the music that held us together.

i know i do these film noir shots a lot (that hat has made the blog quite a few times).

i think the reason why i'm so fascinated with this style is because it leads you to create a story line in your head. by looking at the photo, your forced to come up with character names, plot lines, locations, etc.

so here is yet another film noir photo for a class assignment.

another day begins at sip coffee house, this time accompanied by old roommate andy mills.

he asked me if i was planning on taking pictures today. i wasn't. i wanted to sloth around.

but i said yes and reluctantly got on my bike. it always feels like work when your on your to have fun.

once i got the camera out and started bugging people for a photo i quickly remembered why i enjoy this so much.

i started my day at sip again. bagel, coffee and my computer.

my friend sent me an email with a link to the story of Vivian Maier.

long story short, she was a very talented and completely unknown street photographer that was very private about her work. recently she past away and left all of her 30,000 negatives packed away. not knowing the true value of the photographs, someone bought them at an estate sale. eventually the photos got online and received a great deal of praise.

now the photographs are being shown at the chicago cultural center.

so, that's where i spent the day.

i spent most of my day at sip coffee house, across the street, signing up for spring classes and finishing up photo related business. towards the end of it all i came across this video and felt a sudden push of ambition.

i couldn't sit still. it may have been the three cups of coffee but i like to think it was inspiration. i barely made it through the whole video. all i could think about was getting out my camera and walking around.

so, here is what i came back with. i may try to do this daily. it felt right.

I finally got the doggs tour roll developed.

while i was scanning these in and editing them, so many memories got re-created (radiolab)

i scanned at a pretty low dpi, which makes the resolution a little rough but i was just too excited to re-scan.

nick, matt, william, and i went to the studio today for a roommate photo shoot.

we know it's ridiculous/ contrived/ hilarious/ amazing, but our plan is to have the B&W one of all of us blown up to a 30x20 in. print (courtesy of costco) and hang it in the apartment. i'll post a photo when it's hanging in our living room.

I found this big sheet of plastic, in a dumpster, outside the studio so i just decided to shoot a few frames with it.

i climbed up on my apartment roof today and took some photos of the skyline.

chicago, although face-punching in the winter, is a great city to be apart of. each season is it's own experience. the city takes on a new life with the each passing month.

the winter months are hardest to get through but it's well worth the wait for spring and summer.

we went on a tour. i was going to use my G10 and get video of the whole adventure but it broke the first hour on the road. needless to say, it was one of the best times of my life. [ooowwwwooo, aahhwooo!!! BARK BARK!!]

i started school back up. the classes are going great. it's really strange getting an education in photography. it doesn't feel like work at all. my assignments are only helping me get better at what i love to do. strange how school works like that when your interested... take a hint high schools!

we also played a show at the metro in chicago. it went really well. we all had a lot of fun. there may be some videos floating around from that night so i'll try to post some.

thats about it for right now. there are some photo projects coming up so i'll have some more to post soon.
